Information, Education & Support

After receiving a diagnosis, many individuals are keen to access information about their disorder and how it may affect them and
their families.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association provides:
- Written information on the major disorders (i.e. to individuals with disorders, their
families, students or community groups)
- Advocacy and general support
- Referral to other relevant government or community based services (i.e. Novita Children’s Services, Options Coordination, South Australian Housing Trust and other health professionals).
- Education program for schools and community organisations, to raise awareness of the impact on the lives of people with neuromuscular disorders and those around them.
- Support groups for individuals to attend on a regular basis.
- Information sessions for individuals with neuromuscular disorders and their families / carers. Such topics may include research updates, health issues and coping strategies.
