What is "World of Trivia ®"?

 

World of Trivia® is an exciting and educational event conducted throughout Australia each year, based primarily on a cross-curriculum and general knowledge quiz.

 

Students from Years 4, 5, 6 and 7 are encouraged to compete in teams of either three or four to answer a 45 minute general knowledge quiz of 100 questions. Topics include English, History, Geography, Maths, Sports, Science, Current Affairs, Entertainment & The Arts, the Environment and the like. Importantly, questions on Muscular Dystrophy are also included in the quiz. Information brochures on Muscular Dystrophy are distributed to all competing schools so that teachers and students alike can learn about Muscular Dystrophy.

 

In addition to its fun and educational value, World of Trivia® is also a means of raising vitally needed funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association Inc. Funds are raised by the participating students seeking sponsorship prior to undertaking the quiz.


When is the World of Trivia ® held?

 

The 45 minutes questionnaire can be taken at any time suitable to the school between 1 June and 26 August 2006. Many schools choose to administer the quiz during a wet lunch hour or a spare period. The South Australian State Finals will be held on 29 October 2006 at a venue yet to be confirmed.


What does the fund-raising entail?

 

Prior to undertaking the quiz, students will be encouraged to seek donations from friends and family. Sponsors may choose to donate an amount of money per question answered correctly. Alternatively, sponsors may find it easier to donate a set amount of money. The choice is theirs and receipts are available for tax purposes should you request one. Importantly, all money raised in South Australia stays in South Australia.


Prizes

 

Fundraising can be hard work, and as such we offer incentive prizes to the students for their efforts. Awards are also presented to the highest fundraising student and to the three highest fundraising schools.


So . . . why take part?

 

The students benefit by receiving rewards and recognition for achievements such as most successful team, highest fund-raiser and the ultimate goal of entry to State (Unbeknown to them, their team-building skills and general knowledge are also benefiting !!) Besides all else . . . they HAVE FUN !!!

 

The community benefits by these children helping to increase the numbers of people who understand Muscular Dystrophy and of disabilities in general.

 

People with Muscular Dystrophy benefit by having the myths surrounding Muscular Dystrophy dispelled and consequently increased acceptance, understanding and help.

 

The funds raised through World of Trivia® are used by Muscular Dystrophy Association to help those whose lives are affected by Muscular Dystrophy.
