THE NATIONAL DISABILITY INSURANCE SCHEME (NDIS)

WHAT IS THE NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme is arguably the biggest disability reform in Australia's history. However, understanding the Scheme can be difficult. This is where we step in. The Client Services team can assist you with gaining access to the NDIS, ensuring your NDIS plan meets your needs and ensuring you are receiving quality services and supports that assist you to reach your goals.

We will also support you in preparing for planning meetings or review meetings, attending those planning meetings and helping you to make sense of it all once your plan has been approved.

SUPPORT COORDINATION

We provide Support Coordination at all three levels; Specialist Support Coordination, Support Coordination and Support Connection. Coordination of Supports is a funded service within a participants plan that assists you to understand and make use of your plan.

One of our Support Coordinators can help you to understand how you can use your NDIS funding, find and recruit suitable support workers, access suitable allied health professionals, access capacity building programs, access the equipment you need, the list goes on.

Our Client Services team also specialises in creating Housing Plans for our clients, which is where Specialist Support Coordination often comes in.

If you would like to learn more about our Coordination of Supports services, contact Client Services Manager Aisling (Ashling) O'Toole via phone on 8234 5266 or email aotoole@mdasa.org.au

WHAT ELSE DOES MDSA PROVIDE UNDER THE NDIS?

  • Social groups: MD Ninjas, MD Squad, MD Mafia and Out and About
  • Camps: Camp Capacity, Camp YOLO and Grown Up Getaway
  • Therapeutic supports: Hydrotherapy

Before the NDIS was introduced, Muscular Dystrophy SA and many other disability service providers received block funding from the Government to enable us to provide services and supports to clients. Now that the NDIS exists, block funding is being taken away and clients will need to ask for funding in their NDIS Plan to enable them to access the above services. MDSA has costed out all of the above supports and can provide clients with the costing documents on request.
